Our protagonist finds herself in an impersonal, mechanical environment filled with commodities, media and spectacle. She is facing left-to-right, which suggests her complicitness in the system, in that it is the direction of ease in any culture that reads from left-to-right. Is she just ’going with the flow’ or is she compelled to conform? Perhaps, in her case, it is a mixture of both.
