Unfair discrimination against christian artists in the contemporary art world is a thing. It is not just me that feels that way. All other religions are welcomed and embraced. This, I am told by Claude, is well documented. Women artists who are also christian will rather harp on about feminism than about discrimination against Christians. Do they identify more as a woman than as a christian? Or, like me, are they unaware that this kind of discrimination exists and that it goes beyond just their personal experience? It is amazing to me how this bit of knowledge has escaped me all these years. How i have been blinded to it. How it has been kept from me. How everyone seems to talk about everything else. And this, never mentioned once to me. But very definitely felt. And very determinedly beaten back. 'Marginalized and ostracized impala impala'. These are the lyrics to a song that my Capetonian cousin composed on the fly as we were on a game drive, and it had me in stitches when she sang it. She started off in a sincere and concerned but encumbered voice, as she tried to crush the oversized words into the notes, and then, once released, ballooned into a loud operatic 'IMPALA IMPALA'. i could not stop laughing. And then of course I joined in.
